Red Cloud Serenity Club
A Recovery Meeting Place
History of the Red Cloud Inn
The Red Cloud Inn opened in 1921 "as a dining stop for the elite motorists headed up Ute Pass and Pikes Peak." A wooden plank walkway led from the back door to a cabin where a gentleman could enjoy a quick drink. Cases of Red Dog rum were found underneath the building when it was remodeled many years later, most likely hidden there since the days of prohibition. The Inn was operated by Clyde Price Hughes and his brother Norman "Red" McLeod Hughes.
In 1990 the restaurant closed, but was opened again in 1992 by Bill Power, who leased the business to chef/managers until 1998.
The building stood vacant until August, 2001, when it was opened as the Red Cloud Serenity Club. On May 1, 2007 operation of the club was transferred to The Red Cloud Foundation, a Public Charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
